GPCS is pleased to announce that Dr. Walter Alvarez of Phillips 66 has been selected as recipient of the 2023 Great Plains Catalysis Society Award. Walter is a wise scholar, passionate leader, and beloved mentor. His technical expertise contributed to the invention of SZorbTM for production of clean fuel, enabled millions of dollars value with superior FCC performance, and resulted in the CoMoCAT process for carbon nanotube synthesis. Walter’s relentless efforts led to the inception of the GPCS in 2017, growth of society membership, and strong ties with industry. As a beloved mentor, Walter was recognized by receiving the Phillips 66 ERI’s Outstanding Mentor Award in 2021. Dr. Walter Alvarez has made exceptional scientific, organizational, and individual contributions to the field of catalysis, especially within the region of the Great Plains Catalysis Society. He will present a plenary lecture at the GPCS 2023 Fall Symposium September 11 in Lawrence, KS.
