The 2026 Great Plains Catalysis Society Award is presented to Dr. Ron Abbott, Business Development Director at LyondellBasell. 

Over several decades, Dr. Abbott has made outstanding contributions to the field of catalysis in both the refining and petrochemical industries through inventorship, organizational leadership, and technology commercialization. His more than 25 patents, technical contributions to the HF Alkylation process, and leadership in the commercialization of CPChem’s 1-hexene technology and Marlex® Anew™ circular polyethylene demonstrate the breadth and lasting impact of his work, which continues today through his efforts to advance a circular economy for plastics. He has also been a strong supporter of academic institutions through engagement with GPCS, industry-academy collaborations, and mentorship of the next generation of scientists and engineers. Dr. Abbott’s career exemplifies excellence across multiple facets of catalysis research, development, and commercialization, making him a highly deserving recipient of the GPCS Award.
